Paul Ferguson and Andrea Powell Ferguson formed Ride Again Productions in 1996 to produce the soundtrack for Paul's musical adaptation of Lee Smith's novel, The Devil's Dream. At that time, the company was named Ipo Productions, from the Hawaiian word for "sweetheart." Two years later, after a thrilling ride on the Cyclone (Coney Island's famously rickety wooden roller coaster), they decided to rename their company Ride Again Productions -- not only does that thrilling amusement park ride offer its patrons the opportunity to ride again without waiting in line, it seemed the perfect metaphor for a life in the theatre. While we can't guarantee you won't have to wait in line to see our shows, we promise you an experience you'll want to do again.
Over the past decade, Ride Again has produced several acclaimed theatre events, including multiple productions of Good Ol' Girls in North Carolina, Virginia, and New York City; 4Play: A Festival of New American Plays in New York City; Killer Diller (based on Clyde Edgerton's novel) in Chapel Hill, NC; The Christmas Letters (from Lee Smith's novel, with songs by Tommy Goldsmith, Tom House, and Karren Pell) in Chapel Hill, NC and New York City; Redheaded Robin's Christmas Story (a new musical for children by Bill and Carol Luttrell) in Chapel Hill, NC; and countless performance hours of Southern literature and music. They have also produced special events for organizations such as the Center for Child and Family Health, the Adventures in Ideas seminar series, the UNC Education Foundation, Duke Women's Studies, and the Kenan Center.
With their 2005 production of Redheaded Robin's Christmas Story, Paul and Andrea decidedto reform the vision of their company to benefit charities and performance programs that rely on contributions and often struggle to stay afloat. To date, their productions have raised several thousand dollars for the North Carolina Children's Hospital and DooR to DooR, the healing arts program that brings performers to hospital patients, their families, and staff.
